Martin Mkhize
Martin Mkhize started his career early as the winner at the Tirisano School
Eisteddfod in Gauteng province. In 2010, he joined The Black Tie Incubator Scheme
and sang in such productions as Mozart’s Requiem, and One Voice: An African
Celebration, Lucia di Lammermoor, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and the Christmas
Concert. During 2011 he earned the role of Betto di Signa in Puccini’s Gianni
Schicchi and in 2012 was the soloist for One Voice: An African Celebration.
Mr. Mkhize is currently in his final year at the University of Cape Town under the
guidance of Mr George Stevens. Martin has performed such roles as Don Prudenzio
in Il Viaggio di Reims, Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata and Figaro in Le Nozze di
Figaro. He recently toured to the Netherlands with the Cape Town Opera
production of African Angels and sang the role of Masetto in Darling Music Express’
London production of Don Giovanni. His most recent role was a world premiere as
Nsimane in Blood of Mine by Sibusiso Njeza.
